[News] Mario Maurer appointed as a promotional ambassador for Korean tourism

A Thai heartthrob will promote Korea as a top tourist destination.

The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) announced Monday that Mario Maurer has been named a goodwill ambassador. He will be in Seoul, Thursday for a KTO ceremony.

An actor, model and singer, 22-year-old Maurer is one of the hottest stars in Thailand.
“Maurer has been to Korea several times before and has shown a personal interest in our country,” said Shin Pyeong-seop of KTO.
“We’re happy to have him on board.”

He is flying to Seoul with four fellow Thai citizens, winners of a contest held by KTO’s Bangkok office. They are scheduled to stay for four days to visit the main tourist sites in Korea.

Maurer’s visits will be promoted both online and on TV. His Facebook page will recap the visit to more than 300,000 online fans.
The production team from the Surivipa Show on Thailand’s Modernine TV will also follow the star’s footsteps in Korea, with video footage to be broadcast in August.

According to official figures, the number of Thai tourists visiting Korea is increasing. Last year, they accounted for more than 260,000 people, up 36.5 percent from 2009.
